TECH – eDesign Maintenance Update

The latest eDesign maintenance release contains enhancements and other changes to make the most of your yearbook experience.

Additional key commands have been added, as well as a reminder tooltip for each! The shortcut additions are listed below. For a complete list of eDesign key commands, and a printable PDF, see the Help topic.

World Yearbook Templates have been added to the template library. These allow the staff to create pages that match the design of the World Yearbook supplement!


New Delete Rules for Staff: Some advisers had concerns that staff users could delete the templates of others, wiping out hours of design work, as well as delete any photos of students they didn’t like. Now staff users can only delete images and templates they uploaded or created themselves.

We also received feedback that editors should have permission to delete any template. Now they can! Previously, Editors couldn’t delete any templates at all, but that was out of line with the other editor permissions, since they could edit many other aspects of the book.

Otherwise, Advisers and Editor permissions remain unchanged. Below is a quick recap of user delete permissions in the Library. For a full list of staff permissions, please see the eDesign Help “Roles and Permissions” topic.

· Staff: delete any candid they uploaded, or template they designed.
Anyone can remove system art.
· Editors: delete any type of object, except portraits or in-use images.
· Advisers: delete any type of object, except in-use images.


Color Picker Update: some customers expressed confusion about how color mixing works in eDesign. To aid with this, we have added the following text to the color picker when adding a new swatch:

· CMYK blends are shown as RGB approximations in the browser and may vary due to your monitor. See your PDF proof for more accurate color representation or the “About Color” Help topic


Index Builder: updates have been made so the index builder is no longer fooled by names that contain a prefix and middle name (i.e., Mrs. Alison I. Iraheta). Also, a “Snap To” function has been added in the wizard’s Layout step, to make alignment a bit easier.
